
FUM’s mission is to promote and coordinate work towards the advancement of farmers in Malawi through protecting their interests, lobbying for favourable policies, facilitating dissemination of market information, providing technical skills for improved production and quality produce and creating linkages and networking. FUM is promoting the establishment of cooperatives. It is also encouraging some of the existing associations to change into cooperatives so that farmers can work and do business together. The volunteer, therefore, will build capacity of existing cooperative in business management, cooperative management (governance), value addition and marketing. She/he will also assist in establishment of new cooperatives beyond agriculture.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
To develop and strengthen existing cooperatives to improve their livelihoods through intervention in the areas of local empowerment, agro-diversification initiatives, value adding initiatives, agro-input acquisition, marketing and environment management.
Project proposal writing seeking financial and technical support in the areas that will strengthen and improve the livelihoods of cooperative member..
To build capacity of cooperatives in contracts and agreements negotiations, market linkages and networks
To build capacity of cooperative members through training, seminars and workshops
To provide advise to FUM on cooperative development issues
Promote and facilitate the full participation of women in all aspects of Farmers Union of Malawi programming
QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of a Bachelors degree in Rural Development or Bachelors Agribusiness , Cooperative Development, Social Sciences
