Metallurgical Specialist x2-GUI00005 - Guinea

Description:
METALLURGICAL SPECIALISTS (2) – UNIQUE WEST AFRICAN CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
· Exciting feasibility study & development opportunity
· UK Based initially, changing to a fly in, fly out basis from Guinea
· Develop your knowledge and skills within a challenging environment

Rio Tinto’s Iron Ore Group is the custodian of Rio Tinto’s iron ore interests globally. Our operations including Pilbara Iron and HIsmelt® in Australia, Iron Ore Company of Canada and Rio Tinto Corumba in Brazil with emerging operations in India and Guinea, West Africa.
The global dimension to our iron ore business is best demonstrated by Simandou. The Simandou Iron Ore Project is one of the most exciting and valuable developments within Rio Tinto. Situated in South East Guinea this world class iron ore province is of exceptional size and quality. The project comprises development of a 70mtpa mine, a 700km rail system and construction of a deep water port. This is a Greenfield development with unique characteristics demanding a highly innovative approach to development in one of the world’s poorest countries.

The Metallurgical Specialist roles are important to the successful development of the ore processing and product optimization strategy, whilst developing and managing internal teams of local Guineans and consultants.
This is an excellent learning and development opportunity to apply your knowledge on a new project in a developing country. This role will require you to use your technical knowledge and commercial acumen to establish testing programs from bench scale to pilot plant scale; recommending design proposals that optimize the value of this project and managing analytical and testing laboratories. These roles would lead to operational roles during construction, commissioning and ultimately production.
These roles require tertiary-qualified candidates with significant technical and operational metallurgical experience who are ready to take up the additional challenges associated with designing and building a plant in a developing country. The successful candidates will have at least conversational level English and French (written and verbal); have an awareness of cultural differences and be confident working with people to collaboratively solve problems. You will also have a willingness to spend significant periods of time in the field in basic living conditions.
Initially these roles will be based within the Study Team in London with travel to Guinea as required. Once the Metallurgical pilot plant site is established, these roles will move to fly in, fly out from Guinea on a 4 weeks on, 2 weeks off basis.

Applications and resumes must be submitted in English.
