General Manager (M/F) - Health & Safety, Guinea

My Client is one of the leaders in their field with operations on all continents and a strong pipeline of exciting projects. The Group takes a long term and responsible approach to its business with an overriding commitment to health and safety, the environment and sustainable development.

A world class project to design, develop and operate a major mine, railway and a deep water port is underway in Guinea. Given the Group’s proactive approach to the well being of their people, they are seeking a seasoned manager to lead health and safety during all the phases of the project and at the subsequent construction and operational stages.

The mission:
The (M/F) General Manager - Health and Safety will be an integral member of the senior management team working to develop, recommend and plan successful health and safety outcomes.

Along with this strategic dimension, the incumbent, based in Conakry, will initially lead a small team and will be responsible for implementing best practice systems and providing active guidance and support on health and safety across the mine, rail and port projects.

The incumbent will design and implement plans, meetings, programmes and audits to ensure that health and safety requirements are met. He/she will also be responsible for introducing systems and training that will provide the necessary health and safety skills for all employees and contractors.

This role offers a rare opportunity to be instrumental in influencing a significant new project from inception onward, drawing on the Group’s considerable expertise in the health and safety domain while designing and implementing systems which will embed these in daily matching behaviors.

The profile:
• Senior level Health and Safety management experience in a leadership role with a particular focus on strategic decision making, within a multinational resources or industrial company.

• Creative thinking and strong communication skills combined with the ability to influence internal teams and external stakeholders at all levels.

• Sound understanding of system design concepts, technical knowledge of Health and Safety theory and at least 10 years experience in designing and implementing health and safety systems. .

• Experience working in developing economies, preferably in Africa and the ability to understand and relate effectively to people in complex inter-cultural environments.

• Fluency in French as the official language of Guinea and English as the working language of the Group.

The offer:
A highly attractive senior management remuneration package will be offered consisting of a base salary, incentive bonus and participation in the executive share scheme. In addition a tax-free assignment allowance, company car and housing will be offered.
