Job Content
Responsible for all activities associated with environmental programs, to ensure compliance with Palabora Mining Company and Rio Tinto standards and legislation. The main job requirements are:
· Lead a team of environmental and quality specialists.
· Identify, quantify and minimise existing and potential environmental impacts and liabilities.
· Liaise with appropriate authorities and represents Palabora Mining Company Mining Company on internal and external committees dealing with environmental issues.
· Provide professional, technical guidance to line management in solving environmental problems.
· Ensure compliance to Palabora’s SHEQ and ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 standards, approved EMPR and Closure statement.
· Ensure environmental standards are developed and applied across the site and are consistent with Palabora and Rio Tinto requirements and legislation.
· Ensure that the company is kept abreast on issues such as bio-diversity, sustainable development, ecological reserves, closure principles and environmental reporting
Intrinsic Qualities
· The ability to work with all levels in the organisation.
· Understanding of industrial minerals and copper operations.
· Strategic, long-term focus.
· Good communication skills.
· Excellent report writing skills.
· Computer literate.
Qualifications & Experience
· Degree in natural sciences or engineering sciences.
· ISO 14001 and ISO 9002 auditor.
· Five years experience in environmental field, preferably with the Mining Industry.
