Our client, an awarded and highly successful a successful copper producer listed on the Toronto and Australian stock exchanges, currently has a vacancy for a bilingual - French and English – Mechanical Superintendent in the Katanga Province of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

This position reports directly to the Maintenance Manager and you are accountable for co-ordinating and planning appropriately skilled and motivated personnel at the Kolwezi Operations to the maintain the earthmoving and light vehicle fleets in order to achieve budgeted production at budgeted cost in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.

The candidate for this role will have previous experience in maintenance of Hitachi, Cat and Bell earthmoving equipment, particularly electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting.

Your main duties in this role include:
· Provide motivation, leadership, supervision and support to maintenance employees so as to create a professional, dynamic and safe working environment
· Implement maintenance processes for scheduled and breakdown maintenance in order to achieve the highest possible availability and performance of the earthmoving and light vehicle fleet
· Supervise, train and assist employees and other personnel in their duties
· Participation and promotion of environmental, health and safety systems
· Develop and apply working practices and procedures of the highest standard to achieve the optimum availability and operation of the earthmoving and light vehicle fleets
· Assist in developing, implementing and maintaining ongoing training programs in the maintenance area for the induction, training and certification of all personnel employed in the maintenance area
· Be conversant with and apply as appropriate up-to-date and cost effective maintenance techniques
· Prepare, adhere to, and report on operating and capital budgets for fleet maintenance
· Attend daily and weekly meetings and provide accurate, detailed, timely and up to date information regarding fleet performance
· Ensure operational compliance with regulations and requirements
· Undertake projects as directed

You will consult with and receive information from the Maintenance Manager on the direction and control of all duties. Moreover you will liaise with the Mining Department in relation to issues regarding maintenance of the earthmoving fleet and scheduling of fleet maintenance in order to minimise the impact to ongoing production. You will also communicate with outside resources on technical improvements.

Successful applicants for this role will demonstrate the following competencies:
· Diplomacy, cultural Awareness and ability to work with, train and direct national employees
· Basic knowledge of French and/or Swahili Languages and excellent communication skills
· Trade qualifications in heavy diesel mechanics
· Previous experience in maintenance and management of a Toyota light vehicle fleet
· Ability to work as part of a team and facilitate team effectiveness
· Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines and to work without supervision and to accept responsibility
· Able to efficiently identify, analyse and resolve hydraulic and electrical breakdowns
